What is the difference between closing and canceling a PO Line?

Answer

Canceling a PO Line deletes the inventory associated with the order.  This may be appropriate for one-time purchases, but will probably not be advised for continuous orders, since most libraries will want to retain a record of what had been purchased previously.

Alma default reasons for canceling are "library canceled" and "vendor canceled" but more can be added in configuration.

Closing a PO Line will close the PO Line, but does not delete the inventory.  Notes may be added to provide reasons for closing.

For libraries that used Aleph for Acquisitions, it may be important to note this if libraries were using the Aleph status of "LC" and "VC" on canceled continuous orders when running comparable analytic reports.
